The Balvenie 25
A Marraige of Rare Casks
WHISKY TASTING

Color: Gold
Price: $$$$
Nose: Very fragrant on the first whiff, soft citrus fruits.. lots of lemon peel..underneath the citrus.. you get that honey notes you would see in most Balvenie’s. More of that sweet citrus, candied ginger and some kind of richness at the very deep end of nose.. There is a very nice interesting funkiness developing in the glass with time.. a herbal menthol note.
Palate: Lemon pie.. with some powdered spice on the top.. light to medium bodied. Some light vanilla with a hint of cinnamon spice and just a tinge of of waxy honeyed sweetness. The flavors are so light and delicate that you have to really concentrate to understand the nuances here. The tropical fruits are present are but are very subdued by the lemon peel.
Finish: Ends in that lemony.. white pepper spice and nutmeg. Medium to long finish, get that candied ginger in the end to finish off. A little waxy coating of that lemon-orange citrus stays behind in the mouth.
Final Thoughts: There is texture, but for me, for today it lacks complexity. It feels monotonous after a certain point, the finish is medium to long. I had high expectations on this one, may be a little too high. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good scotch whisky but for the price I am left wanting more magic in the glass. I dint see any waves of complexity in my glass today. It was good and that’s about it.
