Nose: Right of the bat, sherry goodnes. You know this is going to be big sherry bomb, Christmas cake, molasses, dry fruits plums, Figs.. dark fruits. Heavy nose feel… even the smell has a heft to it. From the initial nosing it does not feel very sweet, its more likely on the drier side from the oloroso cask. Getting some wood influence on the very back with the light spices now, some cinnamon, some nutmeg. Candied ginger and some orange citrus also coming through..As i let it sit for a few more minutes and take an other whif i am getting more of that fig bar with marmalade jam .. super excited to try this.. feels like how a proper old school macallan should always be..

Palate: First sip bought some alcohol heat with it.. higher ABV makes itself known..Slowly as palate gets accustomed to the high ABV, the sherry richness begins to come through. A tiny bit astringent, not very sweet as expected from the cask and nosing. Very viscous, coats your entire mouth with a thick molasses coating. After a few more mins in the glass now i get that burt sugar, dried figs, sultanas, Christmas cake, black coffee, hints of dark chocolate… there is some spicy ness cutting through as you take more gentle sips..This whisky has some punch to it.. its full bodied, its complex… layers and layers of tastes on the dark side.. if you know what I mean.

Finish:
Wow… its long and spicy..There is woody finish.. that last forever… with some burnt caramel and coffee and some kind of thick syrupy tea. Its not like a Olong tea that you can find in some delicate scotches.. this is like more of thick unsweetened tea plus a coffee brew ..Overall.. very nice..

Final Thoughts:
Excellent whisky… perfect winter dram.. this one is going to be tough for Texas summer months..unless you sneak this in on one of the cooler nights. Perfect old school macallan vibes.. if you like meaty, chewy whiskies this will be right up in your alley. Goes perfectly with some dark chocolate and christmas cake.

Score: 88/100
