Nose: Malty, cereal notes, citrus, more lemony notes..slightly perfumy and kinda leather notes from sherry on the top and on the backend i get some kind of tropical fruits like guava, pineapple.. some baking spices.. nutmeg.. cinnamon..
Palate: Citrus, Lemony, Meaty, Some Spice on the backend.. like a white pepper. Old leather.. .. great old whisky… easily drinks its age. On the front palate, you can taste the bourbon cask characteristic and on the backend of the palate, you kinda get that light sherry richness..light sulphur notes as one can expect from most craigallachies is definitely there. Light nuttyness in the end on further sips.. with some spices.. and some brown sugar sweetness to wrap it.. almost like a candied nuttiness with cinnamon and nutmeg. It drinks like the ABV is more than 46%, the scotch has got some thickness to it, from the wormtub condensor Craigellachie uses.
Finish: Long... zesty..Loving this.. would relish this bottle any day.. if I can find it still at a decent price.. changes with each sip… and different layers come on the palate.. perfect balance of zest, sweetness, nuttiness and fruity.
Final Thoughts:
Excellent whisky… looking forward to exploring more craigellachie's in the future, i havent found one that dissappointed me ever. It's sad that i dont get to see a lot of Craigellachies around where i live, i have had some exceptional single casks. One thing to note is, i have had 3 bottles of this and all the 3 of them had the cork break on me on opening them. Not sure if there is a distillery bottling issue or the store or the distributor not storing them properly.
For the price and what this bottle has to offer, its a understated whisky, it punches way above its weight class. I would highly recommend everyone try this, if they haven't already tried it before.
